The American Bar Association hosted a discussion on past actions of the American Press during times of war, such as: the leaking of the Pentagon Papers, disclosures of the NSA eavesdropping program and whether the press can be susceptible to criminal charges for reporting classified information. This event took place on August 9th at the ABA's Annual Meeting in New York City.

Linda Greenhouse retired from the New York Times in July after covering the Supreme Court for 30 years. She talked about the Supreme Court justices, changes in the Court, and the most memorable moments of her career. Ms. Greenhouse accepted a buyout from the New York Times earlier this year. She will begin teaching at Yale University Law School in January. Linda Greenhouse began covering the Supreme Court in 1978 when Warren Burger was the Chief Justice.

This week on America and the Courts, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is a panelist at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judicial Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. He speaks about the Supreme Court, international law & how other nations view America's Constitution. Other panelists include: Senior Judge John Coughenour, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington; Joseph Meier, Boise, Idaho Attorney; and Kelli Sager, Ninth Circuit Conference Executive Committee, Program Chair.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito visits the University of Pepperdine Law School and talks about writing judicial opinions. The panel discussion focuses on how clear writing advances our understanding of the law. Other panelists include: Walter Dellinger, Former Acting Solicitor General for the Clinton Administration; Kenneth Starr, Pepperdine University Law School Dean; and others. Pepperdine University Law School will host this discussion on Wednesday, July 30th at the law school in Malibu, California.

The Heritage Foundation hosted a panel of journalists who cover the Supreme Court as they discussed major decisions from the recent term, including Guantanamo Bay detainees, DC's gun law and the death penalty. Panelists include: Dahlia Lithwick, Slate.com Senior Editor; Stuart Taylor, National Journal Senior Writer & Columnist; and David Savage, Los Angeles Times Supreme Court Reporter.

U.S. Supreme Court Justices John Paul Stevens and Antonin Scalia spoke at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judicial Conference in Chicago and talked about Justice Scalia's new book, "Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges." The Seventh Circuit Court Court of Appeals covers Illinois, Indiana & Wisconsin. Each Supreme Court Justice is assigned to a circuit by Chief Justice Roberts.

This week Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer, Samuel Alito & Clarence Thomas give commencement addresses at university graduation ceremonies. First, from May 18th, Justice Stephen Breyer speaks at American University's Washington College of Law. Then, Justice Samuel Alito spoke at Catholic University Law School on May 23rd. Finally, Justice Clarence Thomas was at the University of Georgia from May 10th.
