This week, the Supreme Court heard oral argument in two cases that question the constitutionality of sentencing juveniles to life in prison for crimes other than murder. The attorneys argue that the sentences violate the 8th Amendment rights.

A&C: Supreme Court Oral Argument on Life in Prison Sentences for Juveniles The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Graham v. Florida and Sullivan v. Florida. After the Court heard the cases, attorneys on both sides talked with reporters. Both cases question the constitutionality of sentencing juveniles to life in prison with no chance of parole for crimes other than murder. At Dickinson College, a panel of judges and journalists talked about the challenges of covering the court and the tensions that sometimes arise between judges having an orderly court and the public’s right to know.
