FMR. REP. BARBARA JORDAN (D-TX)

Fmr. Rep. Barbara Jordan (D-TX)
In 1972, Barbara Jordan of Texas was elected to the United States House of Representatives, becoming the first black woman from a southern state to serve in the House. She received extensive support from fellow Texan and former President Lyndon Johnson. This week, we'll bring you two recordings of Barbara Jordan: her keynote address to the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York City; and a Roland Hayes interview with Barbara Jordan recorded in March of 1984 for the Lyndon Johnson Presidential Library.
