Micheline Maynard talked about her book, The End of Detroit: How the Big Three Lost Their Grip on the American Car Market, published by Doubleday. The book chronicled the Big Three Detroit auto companies (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors), which once dominated the American vehicle market, lost market share as a result of increasing competition from imports. Ms. Maynard pointed to several reasons for this decline, including the Big Three’s focus on making SUVs instead of cars, efforts by foreign companies to learn about the American market, and a significant decline in the “buy American” attitude. Following her presentation, Ms. Maynard answered questions from the audience gathered at the University of Michigan School of Business in Ann Arbor, MI. close
