The House passed legislation that would provide presidential candidates with the same level of Secret Service protection as the president. The bipartisan bill was introduced in response to the second apparent assassination attempt against 2024 Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump. Members also approved a bill to restrict federal funding to so-called sanctuary cities to block their use for health care, shelter, and other services for undocumented immigrants living there, and a resolution to repeal the Environmental Protection Agency’s tailpipe emissions rule for small cars and trucks.
