Senate Republicans blocked the motion to proceed to consideration of a House-passed domestic terrorism prevention bill to establish domestic terrorism offices at the Homeland Security and Justice Departments as well as the FBI. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) changed his “aye” vote to “nay” in order to bring the bill up again for a vote on a later date. Democrats blocked Senator Ron Johnson’s resolution to repeal under the Congressional Review Act the Biden administration’s asylum rule. The vote failed 46-48, but Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) entered a motion to reconsider the resolution. Members also confirmed Marcia Bernicat’s nomination to be director general of the U.S. Foreign Service.
