Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen delivered remarks on the Biden administration's economic strategy toward countries in the Indo-Pacific region. She remarked, "The Indo-Pacific region is at the center of the 21st century global economy," and said the priorities were about increasing trade and investment, bolstering supply chains and economic resilience, and cooperating on global challenges such as climate change. Secretary Yellen also affirmed the U.S. was not seeking to decouple economic relations with China, saying such a policy was "simply not practical," but was instead de-risking and diversifying investments both domestically and abroad, including with Vietnam, India, South Korea, and Japan. The Asia Society Policy Institute hosted this event in Washington, DC, and her remarks came days ahead of the U.S. hosting APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Economic Leaders' Week in San Francisco.
