Federal Reserve Chair Holds News Conference on Economy

He further said that the process of lowering inflation to the Fed's target rate of 2% had "a long way to go," and implied that future rate hikes were possible, saying too much economic growth or persistent labor market tightness "could warrant further tightening of monetary policy." Moreover, Mr. Powell said third-quarter economic activity expanded at a strong pace and was well above expectations, citing data pertaining to the GDP, strong job growth, and a low unemployment rate.

President Biden on Artificial Intelligence

Among the requirements of The Executive Order are the use of Defense Production Act to require transparency in safety testing of AI systems, increased safety standards, consumer privacy, and civil rights and equity guidelines. At the top of his remarks, the president applauded the United Auto Workers and the Big Three automakers for reaching, what he called, a "historic agreement" in agreeing to a new contract for auto workers. Sen. Schumer Holds News Conference on AI Meeting With Pres. Biden

This came after they had a bipartisan meeting with President Biden about his new executive order on the safe development of AI. Senator Schumer said the executive order was a good start, but Congress also needed to pass legislation to address the issue. He also reported that the meeting focused on bipartisanship and investments, amid competition with China on AI development.
