Judges Hear Case on Reinstating Gag Order Against Fmr. Pres. Trump

Federal prosecutors requested a gag order to be reinstated against former President Donald Trump in a federal case concerning alleged election interference. If reinstated the order would prevent the former president from speaking publicly about and against the case, individuals involved including Special Counsel Jack Smith, other investigators, court personnel, and witnesses.

Attorney General, Treasury Sec. and Others Hold Press Conference
44 minutesAttorney General Merrick Garland and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced enforcement actions against Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world, and its founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao during a press conference from the Justice Department. Penalties announced against the company were more than $4.3 billion, the largest enforcement action in the Treasury Department's history. According to Secretary Yellen, "Binance was allowing illicit actors to transact freely, supporting activities from child sexual abuse, to illegal narcotics, to terrorism, across more than 100,000 transactions." Also delivering remarks were Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco and Commodity Futures Commission Chair Rostin Behman.

Oral Argument on School Board Members Blocking Critics on Social Media
1 hour, 43 minutesThe Supreme Court heard oral argument in O'Connor-Ratcliff v. Garnier, a case on whether two California school board members can block people from their public and official Facebook accounts. Michelle O'Connor-Ratcliffe and T.J. Zane are school board members with the Poway Unified School District (PUSD) in San Diego. After their election, they each created new Facebook accounts for their positions. On these constituents could comment or react to postings with emojis. Christopher Garnier and his wife, parents of children in the PUSD, posted lengthy and at times repetitive comments on their accounts. The school board members began deleting or hiding some posts. Later they also blocked them. The Garniers filed a suit alleging their First Amendment rights were violated. They won at both the district court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The school board members appealed to the nation's highest court and the justices now have through June 2024 to issue a ruling.
