Mississippi Gov. Reeves Holds Coronavirus Briefing

The governor announced that though there will be changes to the state's "safe return" order for reopening, he stressed that "these changes should not be taken as a signal that the risk of COVID-19 is gone. COVID-19 is still here." Governor Reeves said the "numbers are not declining," pointing to Memorial Day weekend and the recent protests around the state for racial justice as key reasons for the lack of decline in numbers. As for the changes to the "safe return" order, he announced that curfews will be lifted for bars and restaurants that serve alcohol as long as they abide by social distancing guidelines, and the allowed capacity will be increased for fitness centers, reception halls and sports venues.

The secretary general said NATO must "stay strong militarily, be more united politically, and take a broader approach globally." Secretary General Stoltenberg also discussed the role NATO is playing during the coronavirus pandemic and accused Russia and China of spreading disinformation and warned that could complicate mediating the crisis. When asked about President Trump's recent threats to remove U.S. troops from Germany, the secretary general emphasized the military partnership between the U.S. and European allies saying they are, "doing more together now in Europe than they've done for many, many years."
