Russian President Vladimir Putin held his annual, year-end news conference in Moscow to brief regional, national, and international journalists on Russia's domestic and foreign policies. In regard to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, he said "de-Nazification" and "demilitarization" were still the main goals of the "special military operation," and dismissed the need for another mobilization, saying 617,000 service members were currently on the ground. Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Moreover, President Putin said Russia was looking to negotiate with the U.S. about detained Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, who were accused of espionage. This portion of the news conference also contains Mr. Putin's remarks on Russia-China economic relations, artificial intelligence, the Israel-Hamas war, and other issues.
