Defense Sec. & Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Testify on 2025 Budget Request
1 hour, 54 minutes"The most important thing that we can do right now is to pass the supplemental and that will provide us the opportunity to continue to provide security assistance to Israel," said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin when asked what is needed to help Israel after recent strikes by Iran. The secretary, along with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Charles "CQ" Brown and Defense Comptroller Mike McCord, appeared before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense to testify on the president's 2025 budget request. Secretary Austin also stressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine and the threat Russian President Vladimir Putin poses if Ukraine loses the battle. Other topics discussed included modernization efforts, submarine and shipbuilding, healthcare for servicemembers and families, and challenges posed by China, Iran and North Korea.

Speaker Johnson Holds News Conference
22 minutesHouse Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) held a news conference on the Republican party's legislative agenda amid White House support for a House-led national security supplemental and a failed impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. On the impeachment vote, Speaker Johnson said he was "deeply disappointed" in the Senate and stated, "If there's ever been a cabinet secretary that deserves to be impeached, he is that." He continued to discuss aid to Ukraine, and the threat of losing his job over the issue. Speaker Johson passionately said he was doing what he believed to be the "right thing" though the threat of job insecurity is on the table. Rep. Marjorie Taylore Greene (R-GA) previously threatened to offer a motion to vacate the speaker, should Ukraine aid come to the floor. Speaker Johnson responded to that threat, saying he had not asked Democrats to help save his job and, " If Marjorie brings the motion, she brings the motion."

President Biden Remarks on Manufacturing Jobs in Pittsburgh

He announced a series of actions they're taking to reinforce support for United Steelworkers including ensuring fair competition with Chinese steel companies. The U.S. is currently investigating anti-trade practices by the Chinese government regarding steel and aluminum. The president said if anti-trade practices are confirmed he will call on U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to triple the tariffs for steel and aluminum imports from China. Aviation Safety Specialists Testify on Boeing Safety Culture
2 hours, 5 minutesAviation safety specialists testified on Boeing's safety culture amid ongoing issues with its planes midair during a public hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. They discussed many issues including the Alaska Airlines door plug failure while in the air, reports of employees being penalized for raising safety concerns, and the role the FAA has in ensuring aircraft safety enforcement. Witnesses included Tracy Dillinger, NASA's safety culture and human factors manager, and Javier de Luis, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) aeronautics and astronautics lecturer whose sister passed away in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash involving a Boeing 737 MAX 8. That deadly crash along with another one prompted regulators in the U.S. and worldwide to ground all Boeing 737 Max planes for inspections. In the U.S., these aircrafts were grounded for 20 months before they were recertified for safety by the FAA and resumed flights in December 2020.
