At the time of this event, the Smithsonian identified more than 2,100 cases of potential damage and destruction to Ukraine's cultural sites because of Russia's invasion.

Prosecutors charged that these payments were made during his 2016 presidential election bid, in order to keep Ms. Daniels from publicly speaking about an alleged affair she had with Mr. Trump. The trial began over a year later in April 2024.
