23 minutesA bipartisan House task force investigating the attempted assassination of former President Trump all agreed political violence has no place in American politics and vowed to collectively get to the bottom of what happened in July. The group spoke to reporters after touring the site where a gunman opened fire during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, killing one person and wounding former President Trump and others. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), whose district includes Butler, and Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) lead the task force. The task force was created in August 2024.

Supreme Court Hears Challenge to Gun Bump Stock Ban
1 hour, 31 minutesThe Supreme Court ruled 6-3 striking down a Trump-era bump stocks ban implemented in response to a 2017 mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival. Justice Clarence Thomas authored the majority's opinion. He wrote, "a semiautomatic rifle equipped with a bump stock is not a 'machine gun' because it cannot fire more than one shot 'by a single function of the trigger.'" Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote the dissent warning of "deadly consequences." She said, "when I see a bird that walks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, I call that bird a duck." She went on to add, "a bump-stock-equipped semiautomatic rifle fires 'automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.'" The justices heard oral argument in February 2024. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) issued the ban in 2018.
