Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) testified on his administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and a directive he issued to admit and readmit patients and residents infected with the coronavirus before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. The governor defended his record against committee Republicans who said his policies resulted in the unnecessary death of thousands of nursing home residents across New York state. Mr. Cuomo asserted the deaths were from community spread and infected workers during a time when testing was not widely available. He also pointed to the lack of pandemic-related policies and leadership of former President Trump as contributing factors to deaths attributed to the pandemic.

Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) discussed his term in office, conservative principles, and the state of the Republican Party during the closing conversation of the annual Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Texas. Several topics were addressed, including his support for former President Trump, winning as a Republican in a Democratic-leaning state, his views on Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Harris, tax reform and the economy, and his approach to governance. He was also asked about several education policies that have been criticized by Democrats, such as parental control in the classroom and the apparent banning of books deemed not appropriate for students.

"This is a fight worth having," said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) during a news conference with Republican leadership from Capitol Hill of his plan to hold a vote on government funding legislation to avert a government shutdown. The speaker also touched on the SAVE Act and its importance to election integrity as he made claims that there were "thousands of illegals" on the voter rolls in swing states, such as Pennsylvania and Georgia. "House Republicans are leading us to a government shutdown," said House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-CA) as he spoke on government funding during a news conference from Capitol Hill. The chair criticized the Republican plan to extend government funding for six months in order to avoid a government shutdown. He said House Republicans were trying "to jam Trump's 2025 agenda into government funding legislation," and that Republicans "know this has no chance of becoming law we've seen how this ends." Also joining Chair Aguilar at the podium was Vice Chair Ted Lieu (D-CA).
Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco outlined a plan of action to crack down on the possession and proliferation of machine-gun conversion devices (MCDs) during a meeting at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Washington, DC. She, along with ATF Director Steve Dettelbach and U.S. Attorney Christopher Kavanaugh, described the threat that MCDs posed to public safety, saying such devices convert legal semi-automatic weapons into illegal machine-guns that can fire hundreds of rounds or more per minute. The federal government banned the possession and transfer of new machine-guns in 1986, with limited exceptions. In attendance at this meeting were members of law enforcement, academia, the 3D printing industry, and others.

He discussed the agency's approach to tackling cybercrime, including working with the Justice Department, private sector, and international community.
