Atty. Gen. Holds News Conference on Iran's Trump Campaign Hack & Violent Crime Initiative

This announcement came during a news conference at the Justice Department about the success of Operation North Star FY 2024, an initiative unrelated to the hacking charges. Attorney General Garland explained that from May to September of 2024, the U.S. Marshal Service worked with state and local law enforcement to arrest more than 3,400 fugitives and violent offenders. This was the fourth iteration of Operation North Star, which was first launched in 2022 to crack down on violent crime. The attorney general also spoke about the upcoming one-year anniversary of Hamas' Oct. 7 attack against Israel and said the Justice Department unsealed charges against senior leaders of Hamas earlier in the month.

Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn (R) moderated the town hall. The senator and former President Trump discussed several topics including immigration and the economy with a focus on manufacturing and jobs. The former president said his plan of high tariffs on imported products to the U.S. will incentivize manufacturers to build in the U.S. He said reducing the federal corporate tax rate to fifteen percent will also help to bring manufacturing back to the states. The town hall in Macomb county, a suburb of Detroit where the event was held, is a critical swing county in the state.
