Corey Lewandowski, the president’s former campaign manager, testified, but two other invited witnesses, both former presidential advisers, did not appear. Mr. Lewandowski was asked a series of questions about his interactions with President Trump after he had taken office, and specifically about his involvement in communication between the president and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Mr. Lewandowski refused to answer many of those questions. Throughout the hearing, Democrat and Republican lawmakers sparred over the committee’s rules and the chair’s enforcement of them. A consultant attorney hired by the committee’s Democrats asked questions for 30 minutes while the Republicans refused to have a staffer ask questions.
