Members next voted on a motion to adjourn, which failed. Then, on the 15th vote, Mr. McCarthy was elected speaker, after which representatives-elect were sworn in. The House then adjourned to until the following Monday to vote on the rules. Throughout the proceedings, C-SPAN cameras showed scenes from the chamber floor. Normally, the political majority in the House of Representatives controls the cameras in floor proceedings. The one exception is the day of the election of the speaker, when C-SPAN is allowed to control its own cameras.
