DHS Secretary Discusess Threats to America

Trinity Lutheran Church v. Comer 2
59 minutesThe Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that Missouri's denial of public funds to resurface a church's school playground violates the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. This is the first time the Supreme Court has ruled that government funds must provide money directly to a church. The Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia in Missouri owns and operates a preschool learning center that incorporates religious teachings into its programs. Missouri has a state program that provides grants to resurface gravel playgrounds with a rubber surface made from recycled tires. Trinity applied for one of the grants but was denied because the state's constitution barring public funds from going directly or indirectly to a religious entity. Chief Justice Roberts in his opinion for the Court wrote, "The exclusion of Trinity Lutheran from a public benefit for which it is otherwise qualified, solely because it is a church, is odious to our Constitution all the same, and cannot stand." Package for VP Pence Travels to Australia - Joint Presser
42 minutesVice President Mike Pence traveled to Sydney to meet with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Following their private bilateral meeting, they held a joint press conference outlining the U.S.-Australia alliance, economic relations and the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region. Vice President Pence said the U.S. will honor the refugee agreement with Australia subject to the results of the vetting process. On North Korea, the vice president said the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula can still be achieved peacefully due to the new engagement with China.
