Homeland Secretary Testifies on 2018 Budget

One of the areas he discussed was his concern of homegrown terrorism and his expectation of additional "Manchester-style" attacks similar to the bombing in the United Kingdom. Other topics included funding for a security wall along the southwest border, sanctuary cities, combating the opioid and heroin epidemics and the use of unmanned aircraft systems by the department's Customs and Border Protection. This hearing of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homleand Security was led by its chair, John Boozman (R-AR).

Trump Travel Ban

The Court's decision upholds a lower court's ruling barring implementation of a key section of the executive order that suspends visas from the six countries. Chief Judge Roger Gregory in his opinion for the Court wrote,"We need not probe anyone's heart of hearts to discover the purpose of EO-2 (Executive Order 2), for President Trump and his aides have explained it on numerous occasions and in no uncertain terms." Judges Motz, King, Wynn, Diaz, Floyd and Harris joined Chief Judge Gregory's opinion in full. Judges Traxler, Keenan and Thacker joined in the judgement. Judges Niemeyer, Shedd and Agee dissented.

Sen Homeland Hearing on Synthetic Opioids
3 hours, 15 minutesThe Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee on Investigations held a hearing on synthetic opioids. The first panel included officials from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Postal Service on preventing the flow of foreign shipments of synthetic opioids into the U.S., especially fentanyl from China. The committee also heard testimony from a second panel which included former White House National Drug Control Policy Director Michael Botticelli and drug addiction specialists. They provided recommendations for combating the opioid epidemic including having increased access to drug treatment centers and regulating opioid prescriptions.
