Social Security Administration officials testified before the Senate Aging Committee on efforts to protect seniors from social security impersonation scams. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who chaired the two hour-hearing, said these types of scams were the number one report scam to the committee's fraud lines. Ranking member Bob Casey (D-PA) played a recording of a impersonation scam that one of his staffers received in the previous week. Later, a second panel of witnesses discussed what organizations are doing to combat these scams and included testimony from a resident of Ogden, Utah who was a victim of a scam.
