She talked about the president's 2021 budget proposal, the Equal Rights Amendment, the 2020 presidential campaign and the Justice Department's decision to reduce its recommended sentence for former Trump associate Roger Stone.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) held his weekly news conference with reporters on Capitol Hill. Rep. McCarthy said he did not believe President Trump interfered with the sentencing of Roger Stone, adding the Justice Department had already made its decision prior to the president's tweet criticizing the original sentencing recommendation.
The House passed, 232-183, a resolution to remove the deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The measure now goes to the Senate. Congress approved the ERA in 1972. Thirty-five states ratified it by 1978 (needs 38), one year before the deadline. However, five states rescinded their ratification by then. Congress extended the deadline to 1982. Nothing changed before that deadline. Since then, three more states approved ratification, including Virginia which became the 38th state in January of this year.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected President Trump's Middle East peace plan during a speech before the U.N. Security Council in New York City. "This plan will not bring peace or stability to the region," said President Abbas. Following his remarks, Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Kelly Craft delivered statements. During the meeting, both President Abbas and Ambassador Danon said they were willing to negotiate a plan for Middle East peace.
Judy Shelton, the president's nominee to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, received numerous questions of concern from both Republican and Democratic senators regarding her previous public writings and opinions on monetary policy. The questions came during a confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee. Christopher Waller, another nominee for the board, also testified but did not receive as many questions from lawmakers.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin testified before the Senate Finance Committee on President Trump's 2021 budget request to Congress. The secretary fielded questions about the administration's $4.8 trillion budget proposal as well as other issues that fall under the Treasury Department's purview, including economic growth and the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was signed into law in December 2017.
