The Democratic leaders said the Republican proposal did not provide enough aid for workers, the unemployed and state and local governments, among other facets of the bill with which they disagreed. Speaker Pelosi called the proposal "pathetic" while Sen. Schumer said he was frustrated by the process. The leaders said they would continue negotiating with the White House and Senate Republicans but did not agree to any specific timeline.

According to the president, this is an effort to reduce reliance on foreign countries for America's medical needs. When asked about tweets regarding Dr. Fauci, President Trump said he has a good relationship with the doctor, but went on to say "he's got this high approval rating, so, why don't I have a high approval rating with respect, and the administration, with respect to the virus."
