Hearing on the Administration's Immigration and Border Policies

The former border patrol chief appeared alongside immigration policy stakeholders and local government officials to testify on the Biden administration's border and immigration policy. Several topics were discussed, including the rise of cartels, the vetting of undocumented migrants, the need for resources and investment at the border, and the importance of improving the asylum system. Also testifying at the hearing was Tammy Nobles, whose 20-year-old daughter -Kayla Hamilton - was allegedly murdered by an undocumented migrant youth who was a reported member of the gang MS-13.

Pres. Biden on One Year Anniversary of Uvalde, TX School Shooting

Not as Democrats or Republicans but as friends, as neighbors, as parents, "and" as fellow Americans," said President Biden during remarks from the White House on the one year anniversary of the Uvalde, Texas elementary school shooting. He and first lady Jill Biden honored the victims with a candlelight memorial representing the 19 children and two teachers who lost their lives. During his remarks, President Biden shared that there had been 650 mass shooting over the last year, and called for Congress to take action against gun violence.

Hearing on Children Abducted to Other Countries
2 hours, 43 minutesMichelle Bernier-Toth, the State Department's special adviser for children's issues, along with advocates, testified on children abducted by a parent and taken overseas and efforts to return them to the U.S. before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee. Topics included challenges with international law, implementation of the U.S. Sean and David Goldman International Child Abduction Prevention and Return Act and the lack of resources for parents in these situations. According to a government report, in 2022 alone, more than 800 children were abducted and taken overseas by a parent.

Social Security Administration Officials Testify on Identity Fraud

Margaret Hayward, one of the witnesses testifying, spoke about the troubles she's experienced in trying to obtain her nine-month-old baby's social security number and card since she was born. According to experts, children are often targets for identity theft and use of their social security numbers for fraud often goes undetected because unlike adults who can check their credit reports, parents do not do the same with their children's social security number.

Hearing on Gas Stove Regulation Proposal

Also, Mr. deLaski said the rule would not ban gas stoves. Chair Pat Fallon (R-TX) disagreed, calling it a "de facto" ban.

Assistant Interior Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Carmen Cantor requested $536 million for her agency--a decrease of about $211 million from 2023. The Office of Insular Affairs is responsible for administering the federal government's relationship with the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as overseeing treaties with other island nations.

The lawmakers also charged that these major PBMs have conflicts of interest in the pharmaceutical industry and are not transparent with their business deals.
