It is generally estimated that Social Security is the most significant source of income for 40% of households over the age of 65, and, if lawmakers do not address the program's financial challenges, Social Security could be cut by 20% by 2034.

U.S. Attorney Unseals Indictment of Sen. Menendez in NYC
11 minutesDamian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, held a news conference regarding an indictment of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and his wife for bribery. The indictment alleges that between 2018 and 2022, Sen. Menendez, who is chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and his wife Nadine Menendez engaged in a corrupt relationship with three businesspersons. Sen. Menendez and his wife allegedly accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for the senator using his influence to protect and enrich the businesspersons and to benefit the government of Egypt. Previously, the senator was also indicted in 2015 on roughly a dozen charges, including bribery and conspiracy, following accusations he accepted gifts from a donor in exchange for political favors. That case ended in a mistrial after jurors were unable to reach a verdict.

FEMA Administrator Testifies on Disaster Preparedness
2 hours, 13 minutesFederal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell warned lawmakers the agency would have difficulties responding to any natural disaster if the government were to close. Congress is facing a September 30 deadline to approve government spending levels, or a shutdown occurs. Administrator Criswell's warning came as she testified on disaster preparedness before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Emergency Management.
