He said, "in the depths of my addiction, I was extremely irresponsible with my finances. But to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd; it's shameless. The president's son then criticized the leaders of the impeachment inquiry against his father, saying they had lied "about every aspect of my personal and professional life," and had distorted facts in their investigation. This event occurred as Hunter Biden was scheduled to testify behind closed doors before the House Oversight Committee. He did not comply with the committee's subpoena, saying he would rather testify publicly.

House Democratic Leader Marks 11th Anniversary of Sandy Hook Shooting

The minority leader pointed to the 635 mass shootings and the more than 40,000 Americans killed by gun violence in 2023 alone, calling it "unacceptable," "unconscionable" and "un-American." Leader Jeffries and members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force criticized House Republicans for their inaction on gun violence before leaving for the holiday break. The December 14, 2012, mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut resulted in the deaths 20 first grade students and six educators.

Sen. Tom Cotton Discusses the Israel-Hamas War

President Biden Announces Grants for Philadelphia Fire Departments

The grant will fund firefighter salaries and allow the city to reopen three fire departments in Philadelphia, including Ladder 1 in the Fairmount community. The committee is scheduled to meet next on January 30 and 31, 2024.

Whistleblowers Testify on U.S. Coast Guard Academy Sexual Assault
2 hours, 19 minutes"Faith in the Coast Guard within its own members is destroyed. It is not eroded, it is destroyed," said Lt. Melissa McCafferty's (Ret.) during the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Permanent Investigations hearing on sexual assault and harassment at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Lt. McCafferty appeared alongside other former and current Coast Guard officers and cadets who also testified on their experiences with sexual assault at the academy. They addressed several topics, including fears of retaliation, available services for assault victims, and the culture at the Coast Guard Academy. They also testified on the findings of a recently leaked report from 2015, dubbed "Operation Fouled Anchor," which found a history of sexual assaults and harassment at the academy and was covered-up by Coast Guard leadership.

Harvard & Princeton University Scholars Discuss Campus Speech

Transportation Dept. Officials Testify on Infrastructure Law

When asked about the recent recall of more than 2 million Tesla vehicles due to safety concerns with the autopilot system, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Acting Administrator Ann Carlson said Tesla agreed to the recall because "its software system may not be sufficient to prevent driver misuse" and Tesla will be working on "remedies to address that problem."
