Rep. Luna Holds News Conference on Holding Atty. Gen. in "Inherent Contempt"

Anna Luna (R-FL) and other House Republicans held a news conference about a vote to compel the House sergeant-at-arms to arrest Attorney General Merrick Garland and bring him before the House by holding him in "inherent contempt." This was in response to Attorney General Garland's refusal to turn over audio of special counsel Robert Hur's interview of President Biden on handling classified documents, despite being served with subpoenas by the House Oversight and Judiciary committees to do so. The Justice Department did not prosecute Mr. Garland, citing the department's longstanding policy regarding executive privilege.

Homeland Security Secretary Holds Press Conference on Border Security

He said that in the three weeks since President Biden issued the order, border patrol encounters dropped by over 40% across the entire southern border. Moreover, he said that in Tucson, Arizona, where this news conference was held, there was over a 45% drop in border patrol encounters, a nearly 150% increase in repatriations, and an 80% decrease in individuals placed into immigration proceedings. However, Secretary Mayorkas called on Congress to continue efforts to fix immigration policy as a long-term solution, and lamented that "politics got in the way" of Congress failing to pass a bipartisan border security bill.
