This exchange between the two occurred during a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing. Chair Yellen was appearing before the committee to deliver the central bank's semiannual monetary policy report. This was her second day on the Hill. She testified previously before the House Financial Services Committee. Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) chairs the committee while Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) serves as the ranking member.

Senate Armed Hearing on Deputy Defense Secretary Nomination

John McCain (R-AZ) threatened to not vote for Mr. Shanahan saying his written answers on how to deal with Russian intervention in Ukraine were "very disappointing" and "disturbing." Mr. Shanahan revised his previous statement saying he supports equipping Ukraine with lethal defensive aid.
