Election analysts with the Daily Kos blog had a question and answer session with audience members attending the annual conference of Netroots Nation in Atlanta. They discussed the outlook for progressive candidates in many of the 2017 special elections along with the 2018 midterm landscape. The conference is an "annual gathering for progressives" attended by online organizers and grassroots activists that features panel discussions and keynotes speeches as well as training sessions for candidates and campaign workers. The discussion was led by Daily Kos Political Director David Nir.
The Council on the Americas hosted two Venezuelan democracy activists -- one, a human rights lawyer, and one a leader of an opposition party -- to discuss the eroding political situation in the South American nation, which was facing protests, inflation, and food shortages in addition to violent government crackdowns against its political opposition. The two men talked about the political and economic situation in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and elsewhere in the nation, and answered questions from attendees of their discussion.
A coalition of six organizations, which were Daily Kos, The Nation magazine, RootsAction.org, Veterans For Peace, Watchdog.net and World Beyond War, held a news conference in Washington, DC calling on the U.S. to remove all military aircraft from Syrian airspace. Speakers argued that the U.S. military role in Syria was illegal and immoral and addressed concerns that "global policing" and intervention in Syria was an unwinnable military strategy.

Moran answered questions on various policy topics including efforts to repeal and replace the federal health care law, veterans' services, farming challenges and the opioid epidemic.
New America in Washington, DC hosted a panel discussion on ways to improve workforce diversity in the cybersecurity industry. Speakers included cybersecurity experts, business leaders and former intelligence agency officials. They provided recommendations for creating a more inclusive cyber workforce, specifically attracting women, minorities and foreign students. They also offered advice to future cybersecurity professionals and outlined the current challenges in the industry.
