Mr. Wales became head of the agency after President Trump fired Chris Krebs for refuting his allegations of election rigging and fraud.

Edwards v. Vannoy Oral Argument
1 hour, 23 minutesThe Supreme Court heard oral argument in Edwards v. Vannoy, a case stemming from a Supreme Court ruling establishing the right to unanimous jury trials for defendants in federal and state courts and whether this ruling can apply retroactively to other cases. The petitioner, Thedrick Edwards, was convicted for a host of violent crimes including rape and kidnapping by a non-unanimous Louisiana jury. At the time of trial, Louisiana was one of two states that did not require unanimous jury verdicts for convictions. Under Louisiana law, only 10 out of 12 jurors are needed in order to convict. Mr. Edwards appealed his case first in the state court system, followed by the lower federal courts and now before the nation's highest court. The justices have through June 2021 to issue a decision.

Mr. Van Buren appealed his conviction and argued he had authority as an officer to use the database even though it was not for official police business. Under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, it is unlawful for any person to "intentionally "access" a computer without authorization or exceeds authorized access, and thereby obtains information from a protected computer." The court has through June 2021 to issue a ruling.
