He said Mr. Carlson--who characterized the attack as "mostly peaceful chaos"--was "disrespectful" to his force, but he and the Capitol's police were grateful the public generally disagreed with the narrative. Tucker Carlson was recently dismissed from Fox News.

FEMA Official Testifies on Reauthorizing Flood Insurance Program, Part 1
1 hour, 47 minutesDavid Maurstad, a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) official, testified on reauthorizing and improving the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The hearing took place before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance. He said the key principles for improving the NFIP are making flood insurance more affordable, better communication of flood-risk to consumers, denying coverage to areas that have been repeatedly flooded, and instituting a sound and transparent financial framework. The NFIP is currently $20.5 billion in debt to the Treasury Department, and Mr. Maurstad recommended that this debt be canceled.

IRS Commissioner Testifies on President's 2024 Budget Request
2 hours, 53 minutesIRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel testified on the agency's priorities and President Biden's 2024 budget request before the Senate Finance Committee. Senators asked how the IRS has improved its customer service and how it is enforcing existing laws, such as cracking down on wealthy tax evaders who use secret offshore accounts. Commissioner Werfel said funding from the Inflation Reduction Act helped improve service, but the agency has been underfunded since 2010, and requested $1.8 billion for fiscal year 2024. He also pledged that the IRS will not raise audit rates for small businesses and households making less than $400,000 per year, and articulated three of the agency's highest priorities: customer service, ensuring wealthy individuals and corporations pay what they owe, and modernization of IRS infrastructure.
