Social psychologist and author Jonathan Haidt discussed how social media has fragmented culture and politics. His remarks began with an overview of data that described the rewiring of mental health as society transitioned from a play-based childhood to a phone-based childhood. He also discussed the business of social media and usage by children and adults, including surveillance through social media by parents and the impact social media time has on development. Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) announced that he would appoint his former chief of staff, George Helmy, to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Sen.
