DNI & DIA Directors Testify Before Senate Armed Services

Director Coats refused to comment publicly on a news report that President Trump asked him to deny collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. In addition, he addressed the Manchester, UK attack saying the U.S. has yet to verify whether ISIS was responsible. Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart also provided testimony. He said if North Korea is left on its current trajectory, they will succeed in obtaining a nuclear-armed missile capable of threatening the U.S. homeland.

Sen Homeland Hearing on Synthetic Opioids

The first panel included officials from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Postal Service on preventing the flow of foreign shipments of synthetic opioids into the U.S., especially fentanyl from China. The committee also heard testimony from a second panel which included former White House National Drug Control Policy Director Michael Botticelli and drug addiction specialists. They provided recommendations for combating the opioid epidemic including having increased access to drug treatment centers and regulating opioid prescriptions.
