Among the witnesses were NCAA President Mark Emmert and former student athletes from UCLA and the University of New Mexico. In addition, Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), who played football at Ohio State University, testified on the need for compensation. Mr. Emmert told lawmakers that NCAA schools and conferences are considering how rules can be modified to permit students to benefit financially from their name, image and likeness. Overall, the witnesses agreed that modernization is needed with the current collegiate athletic model.
