Fmr. Olympians Michael Phelps & Allison Schmitt Testify on Anti-Doping Efforts
2 hours, 4 minutesFormer Olympic swimmers Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt testified before a House subcommittee on anti-doping efforts ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic games. The impetus for this hearing was a recent report by The New York Times that 23 members of the Chinese swimming team tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, with some of them winning medals. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was subsequently accused of covering up the incident. WADA's president, Witold Baka, was invited to testify but did not appear before the subcommittee. Several of the lawmakers called for the U.S. to withhold funding to WADA until the organization was more transparent and accountable.

Federal Transportation Officials Testify on Rail Safety
2 hours, 43 minutesNTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy testified about the agency's final investigative report on what went wrong in the 2023 East Palestine, Ohio train derailment and how to prevent accidents like this one in the future. The cause was linked to the failure of a wheel bearing that overheated causing the axle to separate, derailing the more than 30 railcars. The NTSB chair, other rail regulators, and industry experts appeared before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines & Hazardous Materials. The 38-car train carried hazardous materials which caused it to burn for some time. Additionally, there were controlled burns. These fires released toxic chemicals into the air prompting evacuations, public health issues and environmental concerns. Rep. Secretary of State Speaks at Aspen Security Forum

Families of American Hostages Being Held by Hamas Speak to House Lawmakers
