"Let us pray for the president," she responded, saying he "misunderstands that cruelty is not wit."

The vote came a week after the prime minister's Conservative Party secured a majority government in the general election and the vote on the Brexit bill paves the way for the U.K. to leave the European Union on January 31, 2020. Prior to the vote, the prime minister and other party leaders led the House of Commons in a debate about several parts of the amended bill.
