He announced that the U.S. would immediately impose new sanctions on Iran until it changes its behavior. The president's remarks came days after the U.S. killed an Iranian general. He addressed the decision to order the drone strike against the general, saying the United States sent a powerful message to terrorists: "If you value your own life, you will not threaten the lives of our people."

He also told reporters that he believed it was "likely" the Ukrainian plane that crashed was shot down by an Iranian missile.
