Several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates delivered remarks at the 2020 legislative conference of the Iowa State Education Association union in West Des Moines. The candidates spoke about their individual education plans if elected president, from deeper investments into public education, to narrowing the opportunity gap amongst students regardless of background, to lowering or eliminating student loan debt. Unanimously, they all promised to appoint a public-school teacher as the next Secretary of Education. Speaking during this portion were Senators Amy Klobuchar (MN) and Elizabeth Warren (MA).
