South Dakota Gov. Noem Holds Coronavirus Town Hall

Kristi Noem (R), along with other state officials, participated in a town hall on South Dakota Public Broadcasting, taking questions on the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic. Several topics were discussed, including the state's mitigation efforts, the medical equipment needed for the state, the impact the virus has had on their economy, and the state being used for hydroxychloroquine trials. They also discussed the coronavirus outbreak at the Smithfield meatpacking plant, which has 518 employees who have tested positive, and an additional 126 close contacts of those employees have also tested positive for the virus. When asked about a statewide "stay-at-home" order, Gov. Noem said that she is looking at the data, but "it just hasn't been an appropriate move for South Dakota."

New York Gov. Cuomo Holds Coronavirus Briefing

The governor announced he was extending New York's stay-at-home order to May 15 and would be coordinating with regional states as to how and when to ease the restrictions. Gov. Cuomo said that hospitalizations, ICU admissions and intubations continued to decline, but the state was still seeing about 2,000 new infections each day. He also reported that 606 people had died over the previous 24 hours, the lowest death toll in 10 days. The governor also expanded his face coverings order to mandate that all people on public transit and in for-hire vehicles wear a covering.

Louisiana Gov. Edwards Holds Coronavirus Briefing
