House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke to reporters in the Capitol following a meeting with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on additional coronavirus relief legislation. Among other provisions in the proposal, the Democratic leaders took issue with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) insistence that the bill include broad liability protections for corporations. Speaker Pelosi said she did not believe that Sen. McConnell was serious about getting a deal made, however, she said negotiations would continue the following day.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows gave an update on COVID-19 relief package negotiations. Sec. Mnuchin said they are far from an agreement but have found issues both sides can work on. He said they want to focus on extending unemployment insurance but there are disagreements on how and the amount. Enhanced federal unemployment is set to expire at the end of July.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell held a virtual news conference to discuss the U.S. economy and monetary policy actions amid the coronavirus pandemic. Chair Powell announced that interest rates would remain unchanged and economic activity remains "well below" its level before the pandemic. In addition, he told reporters, "We have seen some signs in recent weeks that the increase in virus cases and the renewed measures to control it are starting to weigh on economic activity."
President Trump delivered remarks on energy policy at Double Eagle Energy in Midland, Texas. The president signed four permits focused "granting approval to vital pipeline and railway infrastructure." Two of the permits would allow for the exportation of oil and natural gas to Mexico. During his remarks, President Trump turned his attention to Democrats, saying "It's not just Texas oil that the radical Democrats want to destroy, they want to destroy our country. These people are sick. They are sick.".
