The attorney general defended his actions during his time in the Trump administration, opined on the state of the rule of law, and blasted governors for state lockdowns and other executive actions during the coronavirus pandemic, which he compared to "house arrest" and said amounted to violations of civil liberties. "Other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint, it's the greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history," he said. He argued that it was the attorney general's job to exercise prosecutorial discretion and that lower-level attorneys' decisions were not "sacrosanct." 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden delivered remarks during a campaign trip to Duluth, MN. He was introduced by Minnesota's two Democratic U.S. senators, Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar, both of whom had endorsed Mr. Biden's presidential bid, as well as the executive director of a training program for carpenters in northern Minnesota. During his remarks, Mr. Biden talked about his desire to boost the strength of unions and job training programs, as well as his plan to build back parts of the economy hurt by the response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
