President Biden on "Bidenomics" Agenda in Philadelphia
24 minutesPresident Biden promoted his economic agenda, often dubbed as "Bidenomics," during a speech at the Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia. He emphasized his record on job creation and strengthening unions, especially in manufacturing and infrastructure. Moreover, he joked about getting an indirect endorsement from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who recently criticized President Biden for finishing what President Franklin Roosevelt started in regard to public investments. The president was introduced by Philly Shipyard welding apprentice Emily Andrewson.

Council of Economic Advisers Chair on Pres. Biden's Economic Agenda
30 minutesJared Bernstein, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, joined The Washington Post for a virtual discussion on President Biden's economic agenda, described as "Bidenomics" by the administration. Chair Bernstein lauded the president's economic performance, citing data of reduced inflation and a low unemployment rate. He also said that "Bidenomics" will be remembered by a, "transformational shift in domestic production of clean energy products, of electric vehicles, of batteries," which he attributed to public-private investments. Also, when asked by The Washington Post's Heather Long if The American Rescue Plan--the administration's economic stimulus initiative--contributed to inflation, Mr. Bernstein argued it did not, saying it set the stage for a strong economy and inflation was caused by high demand and constrained supply.

Hearing on Russian Money Laundering in Swiss Banks
1 hour, 6 minutesThe Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission, held a hearing on allegations of Russia evading sanctions through money laundering in Swiss banks. One of the witnesses was financier Bill Browder, who did business in Russia before being barred from the country in 2005 for taking on corruption in Russian state-owned companies. Amid U.S. sanctions in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Mr. Browder said, "the Swiss government wants to be seen to be doing something, but, when it comes to reality...there's such a lot of money to be made off of dirty Russian money in Switzerland." Also, he called for the Treasury and State departments to sanction specific Swiss officials responsible for unfreezing Russian money in relation to the murder of Sergei Magnitsky. The 2012 Magnitsky Act is named after him, who was a Russian tax adviser believed to have been murdered by Russian officials for exposing corruption.

Mr. Herzog addressed the topic during an address before a joint meeting of Congress. The address followed Rep. Pramila Jayapal's (D-WA) controversial comments where she called Israel a "racist state." The congresswoman along with other progressive lawmakers did not attend the Israeli president's speech. One day prior to the joint address, the House overwhelmingly voted to approve a resolution in support of Israel and condemning antisemitism.
