Three men, current and retired military officials, gave lawmakers their assessment of what went wrong during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 during a public hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability. At the height of the withdrawal and evacuations of Afghan allies and U.S. citizens, 13 U.S. servicemembers were killed by a suicide bomber at Kabul Airport. A group of family members of those military members were also at the hearing. While they were not expected to testify, they shook their heads no when asked by Rep.
