Security Council, urging the General Assembly to revoke Russia's veto power on the council. As President Zelensky urged for continued support in securing peace and stability in Ukraine, he criticized the U.N. for not doing enough in Ukraine's war with Russia, saying, "humankind no longer pins its hopes on the U.N. when it comes to the defense of the sovereign border of nations."

U.S. Sec. of State Blinken Before U.N. Security Council

Security Council on continued support for Ukraine. Following Secretary Blinken's remarks was Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who criticized U.S. support for Ukraine and ridiculed the request to have Russia's veto power stripped. Also delivering remarks was British Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, who condemned Russian aggression and announced additional aid for Ukraine.

Attorney General Testifies on Justice Dept. Oversight

Several Republican members grilled Attorney General Garland on whether or not he has interfered in U.S. Attorney David Weiss' investigation into President Biden's son, Hunter Biden. Mr. Garland repeatedly rejected these accusations and said, "I am not the president's lawyer." The attorney general also emphasized he has continued to support Attorney Weiss--who was originally appointed by former President Trump--including appointing him as special counsel upon Mr. Weiss' request. Several Democratic members criticized Republicans' handling of the hearing and, along with Republican Rep. Ken Buck (CO), defended Mr. Garland's record. Other topics included the fentanyl crisis, gun violence, and other allegations pertaining to the Biden family.

Fmr. Capitol Police Chief Testifies at Jan. 6 Oversight Hearing
1 hour, 31 minutesFormer U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund testified on security failures related to the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 before the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight. Mr. Sund, who was chief when the attack happened, called the incident an "intelligence failure," saying no intel agencies adequately warned him. He also said he requested support from the National Guard on January 3, but was denied this by the House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving and Senate Sergeant at Arms Michael Stenger, and that, while the attack was happening, he made multiple requests to the Pentagon for the National Guard but was also denied due to "optics."
