Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) gave the 2024 State of the Commonwealth address from the capitol in Frankfort. White House Budget Director Shalanda Young discussed government funding and the possibility of a government shutdown, during a breakfast conversation with reporters hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. While responding to a question on House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) floating the idea of direct budget negotiations with the White House while direct negotiations are happening in the Senate, Director Young called the request "not serious" adding "It's a long trip down to the White House to do something that could be done right next door." Other topics discussed included funding a supplemental request for the southern border, election security, inflation and the economy, and military assistance to Israel and Ukraine.
