McConnell was asked by reporters about his endorsement of Donald Trump for president in light of Sen. McConnell previously saying in Feb. 2021 that Mr. Trump was "practically and morally responsible" for the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The senators also discussed President Biden's upcoming State of the Union speech and promoted his policy achievements.

He said that economic activity expanded at a strong pace over the past year, with inflation lowering, unemployment at a fifty-year low, and the U.S. economy performing better than most other countries' economies. He also said the interest rate policy of 5.25-5.5% had probably reached its peak and that lowering it would happen at some time within the year if the economy continued to be strong. House members asked about the impact of high interest rates on housing affordability and other monetary questions.
