According to CNN, about 800 members of the U.S and foreign press are in Atlanta to cover CNN's presidential debate. This is the first debate between President Biden and former President Trump ahead of Election Day in November. While the press does not have access to the debate studio, they do have access to the spin room where surrogates and supporters of both President Biden and former President Trump will speak to the media after the debate ends. The spin room is located at Georgia Tech University's McCamish Pavilion. Its nickname is the "Thrillerdome." When it's not a spin room it hosts basketball games for the men and women's Georgia Tech basketball teams.

The secretary covered a variety of topics including aviation safety, transportation worker safety, and parking for freight truck drivers. In addition, the secretary countered Republican lawmakers' concerns about electric vehicle (EV) production and efficiency and stressed the need for Congressional legislation for rail safety, as another train derailment took place during the hearing. This hearing comes days after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released a report on Norfolk Southern's train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.
