Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) addressed a report from the Associated Press regarding the recruitment of far-right "shadow candidates" by a secret group called the Patriots Run Project, which allegedly had ties to several Democratic consulting firms. Phillips said, "I think it is a responsibility of administrations--Democratic and Republican--to encourage people to participate" in the democratic process and elections. Before hearing business began, Chair Roger Williams (R-TX) congratulated Ranking Member Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) on her recent portrait unveiling amid Hispanic Heritage Month. Rep. Velazquez is the first Puerto Rican woman to serve in the U.S. Congress.
