"The U.S. economy is in good shape . . . we want to keep it there," said Powell. In addition, he discussed how this rate cut may impact the housing market, responded to criticism on the rate cut having political motivations, and addressed the labor market -- noting that an influx of people crossing the borders and slower hiring have impacted unemployment rates.

On Constitution Day, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch spoke at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. He and his former law clerk, Janie Nitze, talked about America's founding ideals of democracy, liberty, and equality. They also explained how the Constitution was created and the basic principles undergirding it, such as separation of powers and federalism. Witnesses from the National Jewish Advocacy Center and Arab American Institute testified on hate crimes against marginalized groups before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate encompassed a large portion of the conversation with members from both sides of the aisle debating the line between free speech and threats of violence on college campuses. GOP members voiced concerns over their request for this hearing to be specific to antisemitism on college campuses and with a less broad scope.
