Speaker Johnson decried instances of antisemitism against Jewish students, which he alleged were happening at Columbia and other universities. He and his Republican colleagues were booed by protesters throughout their remarks. The protests at Columbia began in the middle of April when protesters set up an encampment of dozens of tents and demanded the university divest from Israel amid the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
